
Police out in full force on PU campus, colleges for polls, ETEducation
Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police has made elaborate security arrangements for the PUCSC elections. A special deployment plan has been prepared to deal with any untoward situation on the PU campus as well as in the 10 colleges in the city affiliated to it.
Two companies of forces have been deployed at PU in Sector 14 and UIET in Sector 25. In addition, a total of 818 police personnel have been put on election duty in the 10 colleges. This apart, about 150 personnel have been kept on standby at the police HQ, and 20 stationed with the SP/City.
Eleven DSPs, 10 SHOs, 18 inspectors, and nine police post-in-charges will be on the field when students cast their votes Wednesday. To ensure the smooth conduct of a free and fair election, the administration has also deployed nine executive magistrates along with the police force, who will take action based on the situation on the ground.
In case of any exigency, police have kept six buses, a water cannon, an armoured vehicle, and 200 anti-riot equipment on the PU campus.
To prevent traffic disruption during the elections, traffic cops have been stationed outside the 10 colleges. They will report to work at sharp 7am Wednesday, and keep a close watch on the campus environment throughout the day.
