800 schools to become Karnataka Public Schools, ETEducation
The state government has greenlit a major overhaul of 800 schools, elevating them to Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) in the next academic year.
The Education Department has been authorised to float a transparent Rs 18 crore tender to appoint an agency for preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) for each school. The total upgradation is pegged at Rs 3,200 crore, roughly Rs 2–4 crore per institution.
Officials said that each KPS will run separate Kannada and English medium classes from LKG to Class 12, catering to at least 1,200 students.
DPRs must adhere to national building codes and departmental standards, with provisions for extra classrooms, science labs, and libraries based on student strength.
Agencies selected via the tender must submit DPRs within two months, ensuring a robust blueprint for the massive school upgrade project.
