Ahmedabad: A total of 7.17 lakh students from across Gujarat have registered for the Common Entrance Test (CET) scheduled for January 31, which determines admission to Class 6 in Gnanshakti residential schools, Rakshashakti schools, and eligibility for the Chief Minister’s Gnansetu Merit Scholarship.
The number of registrations increased by nearly 89,000 compared to last year, indicating growing interest in the state-run education schemes.
According to official sources, the CET was conducted since the 2023-24 academic year for admissions to Gnanshakti residential schools, Gnanshakti tribal residential schools, and Rakshashakti schools, as well as determining eligibility for the Gnansetu Merit Scholarship. From 2025-26, the same CET merit list is also being considered for admissions to Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and Sainik Schools managed by the Gujarat State Tribal Education Society.
Students who completed Classes 1 to 5 from govt and grant-in-aid schools are eligible for admission to Class 6 in these institutions through CET merit. They are also eligible for the Gnansetu Merit Scholarship from Classes 6 to 12. Additionally, students from self-financed schools can secure admission to Rakshashakti schools against 25 per cent reserved seats based on CET merit.
According to the CET notification released by the State Examination Board, online registrations open from Dec 2 to 24. The exam will be conducted at 2,729 centres across the state in 23,898 blocks.
