69 pvt schools in Rudraprayag not registered; notices issued, ETEducation
Dehradun: Uttarakhand education department has served notices to as many as 69 schools in Rudraprayag for not registering with the department. The case was brought to light after the district’s education cell sought details from the schools and found some of them failing to present valid legal documents for operating.
The department has given 15 days to owners of unregistered schools across the state to adhere to the guidelines for operating an educational institution. Officials said the majority of such schools covered pre-primary up to Class 8 and that it was a basic mandate for them to get recognised under the Right to Education Act.
The officials said those failing to meet the guidelines within the deadline may be penalised with a sum of Rs 1 lakh. “It is imperative for all schools to register themselves as mandated under the law, or else they will be punished and may also be considered for complete shutdown,” said state secondary education director Mukul Kumar Sati.
Officials also noted that in some cases, small-scale local schools may have closed long ago but had not unenrolled their institution from the department.
Observing how 69 schools from a small district like Rudraprayag were operating without registering, the education department on Monday directed all CBSE and ICSE-affiliated private schools across the state’s 13 districts to submit their registration certificates, along with requisite documents online. Chief education officers have been directed to inspect the schools regularly and take action against those found flouting the laws.
The communication signed by Sati included 17 points – including norms pertaining to mandatory registration, school fees, bagless day and 10% seat reservation for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe category.
