200 girls at Chitaguppa govt school have just 1 toilet, ETEducation
Kalaburagi: Two hundred students of the govt girls’ high school in Chitaguppa town, Bidar district, have only one toilet, which is posing a big problem. A single toilet was constructed 12 years ago on the school premises. Little has changed, though parents have criticised the school authority for the lack of toilets.
For girls, using the toilet during lunch time becomes a bigger problem. The school principal said he requested higher officers to construct a few more toilets in the school, but the request is still pending. The school has a total of 220 admissions, with around 200 girl students regularly attending classes.
During class hours, teachers allow girls to go to the toilet as the washroom gets blocked during lunch time and break time. Bhagyashri, a Class X student, said that they face a huge problem when all students get a break during lunch time. The single toilet, which is the only one that is available, gets blocked as there is a long queue of girls waiting to use it.
Ambika, another student, said that they cannot even go to a open place behind the school building due to the menace of street dogs. She said they need one or two extra toilets. “It is not only a problem for girl students, but also teachers as there are 7 female teachers who also face the same issue,” said a student, who did not want to be named.
Speaking to TOI, school headmaster Basavaraj Mehthre said that they have requested for toilets through letter and orally to their higher official, who is looking into it. Soon, we will get two more toilets, he said.>
