11k answer sheets sent back unevaluated by SGGU teachers, ETEducation
Vadodara: Over 200 teachers of Shri Govind Guru University (SGGU) in Godhra returned around 11,000 examination answer sheets without evaluating them, prompting the university to seek explanations and arrange alternative examiners to complete the assessment process.
The incident occurred after the university conducted fifth-semester examinations for various undergraduate courses in November last year. The unevaluated answer sheets pertained to minor subjects carrying two credits, including Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) and Value-Added Courses (VAC).
University sources said that SGGU follows a centralised evaluation system at the university campus for major subjects, while answer sheets for SEC and VAC are sent to teachers at different locations for assessment. These minor papers are of one-hour duration and carry fewer credits compared to major subjects.
The answer sheets were dispatched to examiners about 45 days ago after the examinations concluded. However, the university received them back 20 to 25 days ago without any evaluation, officials said.
“On realising that the answer sheets were not checked, we identified other teachers and got them evaluated. Only a small portion of the assessment remains pending,” said SGGU vice-chancellor Hari Katariya. He added that results for 71 of the 123 courses have already been declared.
Katariya said the matter was discussed with college principals, reiterating that evaluating answer sheets is part of teachers’ official duties. The university has also decided to seek explanations from approximately 200 teachers who returned the answer books without evaluating them.
