Edu dept notice to 11 schools open on Akshay Tritiya, Education News, ET Education
Nagpur: The local education office on Tuesday evening issued notices to 11 schools, some of which are part of one educational group, questioning why they are not complying with the Akshay Tritiya holiday circular. While some of the schools who received the notice have decided to remain closed, a few others say they are closed for students.Akshay Tritiya is a holiday under the divisional commissioner’s quota of holidays, hence education department is very particular about following up on it. CBSE Schools Staff Welfare Association president Deepali Dably said, “On Tuesday evening, we had a meeting with divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, who said that the education department will ensure implementation of holiday schedule. We then visited the education officer, who immediately typed out notices to these CBSE schools.”
Schools which are open on that day, however, have not called the students. Some have results declaration while others have called staff only. This is a grey area because technically it’s a holiday for students.
A list issued by the education department does mention Akshay Tritiya as holiday, but there is no specific mention that it is for both staff and teachers. Similar to academic session ending for students, but continuing for teachers, who have to do administrative work as well.
While this grey area might be interpreted by either side in their favour, Dably said that welfare of teachers has to be a priority. “Our teachers have rituals to perform, family responsibilities and who does not want to spend time with their family during festivities. I think schools must follow the holiday circular and grant a holiday,” said Dably.
