Teachers’ body slams education minister V Sivankutty, ETEducation

Kozhikode: Kerala Aided Teachers Collective (KATC) has accused general education minister V Sivankutty of violating his oath of office over his remarks in the assembly regarding disability reservation in teacher appointments in schools.

KATC alleged that the minister misled the public by claiming that the Supreme Court’s order in favour of Nair Service Society (NSS) was applicable only to that organization.

Citing a high court ruling, the teachers’ body said that the Supreme Court verdict in favour of NSS also applies to other teachers in similar situations. The govt itself had sought and received two months’ time from the high court to implement the order.

KATC added that the minister’s legal advisers should understand Article 141 of the Indian Constitution, which makes Supreme Court judgments binding on all. The organization stressed that the same conditions apply to all aided schools, not just NSS institutions. By limiting the order’s applicability, the minister was undermining Article 14 of the Constitution, which guarantees equality before law, KATC alleged.
