Patna: A 25-year-old teacher at a private ANM training school was found hanging from a noose in her room on the first floor of the Shastri Nagar-based institution here on Monday morning. Police, however, have not recovered any suicide note, and are investigating the exact cause of death.

According to the police, deceased Jyoti Kumari, a resident of Tajpur in Samastipur district, had been a faculty member at Soumya Krishna ANM Training School in West Patel Nagar under Shastri Nagar police station in Patna for the past two years. She had come back to Patna from her home town on Sunday evening after a four-day vacation for Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Her fellow teacher, Supriya Rani, who shared accommodation with the deceased, said that the two had dinner together the previous night. “She seemed normal and never mentioned any problems. It did not seem like she was going through anything that could lead to such an extreme step,” Rani told police.

On Monday morning, when Jyoti failed to respond to repeated knocks, she alerted principal Angelina Benjamin. The principal, along with a security guard, forced open the locked door and discovered the body. Police were immediately informed.

Shastri Nagar station house officer (SHO) Ravindra Kumar said they received the information around 10am. “A police team visited the spot and conducted an initial investigation, while further proceedings are underway,” he said.

Forensic teams have collected evidence from the scene. Police are questioning staff members and reviewing CCTV camera footage.
