Bhopal/Jabalpur: The MP high court has stayed the appointment of a junior professor as acting principal of a govt college in Jabalpur, following a petition by the senior-most faculty member challenging the move. The court also issued notices to respondents, seeking their response.

Girish Verma, in his petition, said that he has been posted as professor at Mohanlal Hargovind Das Autonomous Home Science College in Jabalpur since 2012. He is the senior most professor in the college.

Sameer Kumar Shukla, who is 6 years junior to him and took charge as professor in 2018, has been posted as acting principal, which is against a circular of the state govt issued on Feb 15, 2022, which provides for giving charge of principal to a senior professor.

Shukla, who is among the respondents in the petition, had filed a caveat in the case but following preliminary hearing, a bench of Justice Vishal Mishra stayed his posting as acting principal and issued notices to all the respondents, seeking their response.
