Under the mentorship scheme, Shivam will work on an important book focusing on the makers of modern India. The book will be published by the NBT, offering him a rare opportunity to reach a wide national readership early in his literary career.

Lucknow: A former student of Lucknow University, Shivam Singh has been selected for the third edition of the Prime Minister’s Young Writers Mentorship Scheme (PM-YUVA). The national level programme is jointly run by the ministry of education and the National Book Trust (NBT) with the aim of nurturing young literary talent and promoting Indian languages and culture through original writing.Shivam’s selection is particularly noteworthy as only six young writers from across the country have been chosen in the Hindi language category this year, placing him among an elite group of emerging writers at the national level. A resident of Barabanki, Shivam completed his graduation and post-graduation in Hindi from LU and is currently pursuing his PhD from Delhi University.

“This selection is a dream come true for me. Lucknow University played a crucial role in shaping my academic and literary journey, and being chosen among the top young Hindi writers of the country is a matter of immense pride,” said Shivam.

The scheme, known as YUVA (Young, Upcoming & Versatile Authors), is an initiative to mentor young writers under the age of 30 to boost Indian writing, culture and heritage, offering workshops, financial aid of Rs 50,000 per month for six months, and publication opportunities via the NBT. The scheme promotes themes like democracy, fostering a new generation of authors for national and global platforms.

“Through my book on the makers of modern India, I want young readers to connect with the ideas, struggles and vision of those who shaped our nation.” Shivam said.
