FIR filed after principal, profesor accused of molestation by college student in Greater Noida, ETEducation
Noida: The principal and a faculty member of a private engineering college in Greater Noida’s Dadri were suspended after a BPharma student accused them of sexual harassment during a practical examination and brutally assaulting a friend when he tried to intervene.
The college management said it has set up an internal committee to probe the allegations, but claimed the student refused to pursue the complaint when asked to record her statement. The college is to submit its report within one week.
While the police are waiting for the college to complete its internal probe on the molestation charges, an FIR was registered after the student’s friend submitted a complaint against the principal and the professor under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of BNS.
Police said the principal was arrested on Jan 12, but has since been out on bail. The professor accused in the case remains absconding. Police said efforts were underway to trace him.
Meanwhile, a video has surfaced on social media where the student has alleged that she was sexually harassed and assaulted by a professor during a practical examination earlier this week. In the video, the student is seen crying and accusing the two of touching her inappropriately, pushing her to the ground and verbally abusing her.
The student claimed when her classmate intervened, he was brutally beaten up. The student also alleged that when she attempted to submit a complaint to senior college authorities, they threatened to destroy her career. She claimed lack of action has left her mentally disturbed.
The college management said it suspended the principal and the professor after a student levelled allegations of molestation. It also constituted a five-member internal inquiry committee to probe the incident. The management said the student was called for an internal hearing this week, but declined to pursue the complaint and withdrew her earlier statement. It added that the inquiry would continue in the interest of transparency and accountability.
