Kanpur DM orders strict control of stray dogs in schools, hospitals, ETEducation
Kanpur: District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Friday asked officials to completely control the presence of stray dogs in all public and sensitive premises, including schools, hospitals, sports complexes, bus stations and Railway stations, and to ensure concrete and contrineous action in accordance with the intention of the apex court.
In a meeting to discuss the stray dog menace, the DM stated that each relevant institution would appoint a nodal officer, who would be responsible for conducting regular monitoring and ensuring that stray dogs do not enter the premises. If any problem arises, it should be resolved immediately by coordinating with the municipal corporation.
He also said that this issue was not limited to cleanliness or convenience only, but was directly related to the safety of residents and children.
The chief veterinary officer informed in the meeting that currently about 1.36 lakh street dogs are registered within the municipal corporation limits. Of these, more than 84,000 stray dogs had been sterilised so far. He added that the process of sterilising the remaining street dogs was also continuing in a phasesd manner.
The DM directed that animal lovers should also be included in the sterilisation campaign and they should be motivated. A priority list of sensitive places should be prepared and special monitoring should be maintained. “A permanent solution to this problem is possible only through mutual coordination between the administration, the municipal corporation, and institutions.”
