Angry admin cripples college IT system over unpaid salary, ETEducation
Pune: Dighi police registered a case against the systems administrator of a private engineering college on the charge of shutting the entire college’s computer system and changing the website’s password over the issue of salary.
“The college’s computer system was not operational since Jan 9. The college authorities are working on it,” an officer from the Dighi police told TOI.
The college’s executive director lodged a complaint with the Dighi police. A case was registered under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 324 (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the relevant sections of the Information and Technology Act.
The officer said that, according to the complainant, the employees of the computer and systems department of the college submitted an application to the college to increase their salary. “As the negotiations were on, the administrator did not come to work for three months, due to which the college did not pay his 3 months’ salary,” the officer said.
He said that, furious by this, the accused changed the super admin password and shut the entire system on Jan 9. This caused inconvenience to the college as well as the students. “The complainant stated that the accused refused to restart the system until the college authorities fulfilled their demands and paid the salary for three months,” he said.
