Raipur: A school teacher was arrested on charges of alleged sexual harassment of minor tribal girls at a govt school in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district of Chhattisgarh.

A group of girl students from Class VIII had informed the hostel superintendent about the teacher’s ‘bad touch’ and had to later tell their parents when the matter wasn’t paid heed to.

Parents then raised the matter and approached police, demanding arrest of the accused teacher. The school teacher was accused of sexual harassment with the girls in classroom and touching the girls inappropriately, police said.

Police lodged an FIR on Tuesday and teacher was taken in custody under sections of POCSO Act and ST/SC Act on Wednesday.

It’s not yet clear how many girls had the teacher assaulted and since how long was it going on. Police said that those responsible for concealing the information at school and hostel, would also be taken to task.

Statement of girls were being recorded from different classes as well.
