Jaipur: Amid protests by retired employees of the University of Rajasthan over the transfer of land of Maharaja College and Maharani College to JDA and JMC, Vice-Chancellor Alpana Kateja said on Friday that the university administration is very strict about its assets and is working with the district administration to rectify the error.

While speaking to TOI, Kateja said, “In July last year, we learnt that due to an error by an official in the district administration, the land records of two constituent colleges of the University of Rajasthan were recorded as revenue land and transferred under the jurisdiction of urban bodies JDA and JMC.”

She added that the university wrote to the district administration in July and is working to get the land records changed.

“The university is very strict about its assets, and we are working to rectify this error. It should get resolved soon,” Kateja added.

Retired employees of the university said that they will approach the courts if the records are not changed, as this can impact funds received by higher education institutes from the Central govt.

Bhupendra Singh Shekhawat, former public relations officer of Rajasthan University, wrote a letter to the Vice Chancellor, demanding that a special meeting of the University Syndicate be held, and a resolution be passed and sent to the Raj Bhavan and the Rajasthan govt in this regard.

“The University Syndicate’s permission is mandatory before any property belonging to RU is transferred to another institution. However, the university administration was not informed in this case,” Shekhawat said.

Professor Somdev, President of the University Pensioners’ Association, said, “If the state govt does not take immediate action regarding this illegal transfer, a public interest litigation will be filed on behalf of the Pensioners’ Association.”
