Teacher Suspended for Alleged Sexual Assault of Student in Palakkad, ETEducation
Kochi: The education department has suspended a schoolteacher who allegedly sexually assaulted a student after giving him liquor at Malampuzha in Palakkad.
The accused, Anil, a teacher at an upper primary school, was suspended based on a report submitted by the assistant education officer (AEO). The AEO also recommended the disqualification of the school manager for allegedly suppressing information regarding the crime.
Furthermore, the education department has issued formal notices to the headmistress and the class teacher, demanding an explanation within three days. Failure to provide a timely response will result in strict departmental action.
The incident reportedly took place on Nov 29, after the teacher allegedly gave the Class V1 student alcohol and then sexually assaulted him. The victim confided in a classmate after which school staff was informed of the incident.
While the management took internal action against Anil, they failed to notify the police or ChildLine immediately. The matter came to light only after the special branch received a tip-off. Police intervened, revealing that the school authorities had delayed reporting the matter for several days.
