Saudi Arabia’s young scientific talent is enjoying a standout year in 2025, earning international recognition across a record number of global competitions. From April to mid-September, Saudi students collected 91 awards at 26 Olympiads hosted by 23 countries, competing against peers from more than 120 nations.

The honours include five gold, 22 silver, 40 bronze medals, and 24 certificates of appreciation, placing the Kingdom first among Arab countries in overall rankings. The Olympiads spanned a wide spectrum of disciplines—mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics, artificial intelligence, nuclear science, astronomy and astrophysics, and standards and specifications.

Officials attribute this success to a comprehensive national framework for nurturing gifted students, spearheaded by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The joint effort operates through the Mawhiba International Olympiad Program, which runs until November and provides training, mentorship, and international exposure for school students.

“The achievements reflect not only the brilliance of our students, but also the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, critical thinking, and innovation,” Mawhiba representatives said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia’s cumulative tally in international Olympiads now stands at 795 awards, underlining the growing competitiveness and distinction of the Kingdom’s youth on the global stage.

With scientific contests increasingly serving as platforms for innovation and global collaboration, the Kingdom’s leadership views these achievements as part of its broader ambition to enhance educational outcomes and cement Saudi Arabia’s role in shaping the knowledge economy.
