Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development launched its first Youth Development Award on August 12, recognising young people’s contributions to national growth as part of a broader strategy running until 2030.

Announced on International Youth Day, the award is a key initiative of the ministry’s 2024 Youth Development Strategy, which seeks to empower the Kingdom’s growing youth population and expand their role in shaping the country’s future.

The inaugural edition drew more than 300 submissions, with 15 youth-led initiatives honoured for achievements in fields ranging from community engagement to economic development.

Developed in coordination with over 30 public and private sector entities, the Youth Development Strategy focuses on several priority areas: introducing bylaws and legislation to support young people, building the skills of those who work with youth, and increasing youth participation in decision-making.

Officials say the strategy aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification plan, which places young people at the centre of social and economic transformation. With nearly two-thirds of the population under the age of 35, the Kingdom has been expanding programmes in education, entrepreneurship, and civic involvement to harness the demographic’s potential.
