Patna: In a significant move to promote student well-being, Patliputra University (PPU) on Tuesday evening decided to set up counselling centres in all colleges under its jurisdiction across Patna and Nalanda districts of the state. The initiative aims to strengthen students’ mental health, emotional balance and overall well-being.According to PPU VC Upendra Prasad Singh, the decision has been taken in line with directives issued by the state education department which has emphasised the need for institutional mechanisms to support students in coping with academic pressure and personal challenges in life.

PPU registrar Abu Bakar said the university has entrusted proctor-cum-nodal officer Kriti with the responsibility of implementing the initiative. “She will oversee the establishment and functioning of the counselling centres and coordinate with college authorities to ensure smooth execution,” he said.

The registrar expressed the hope that the centres would play a crucial role in helping students maintain emotional stability and improve their academic performance. “Students often face immense pressure due to examinations, career concerns and personal matters. Through these counselling centres, we aim to provide them with timely support and professional assistance,” he said.

In addition the initiative has been welcomed by faculty members and educationists who believe that structured counselling support within colleges will contribute significantly to students’ holistic development, PPU examination controller Manoj Kumar said adding the university has thus joined other institutions in prioritising mental health as an essential component of higher education, reflecting a growing recognition of the importance of student well-being in academic success.
