Thrissur: State School Kalolsavam witnessed a notable humanitarian decision by general education department. A student with serious health issues, Zia Fathima, of VKP Khalid Haji Memorial Madrassathul Rahmaniya VHSS, Padanna, in Kasaragod district, was permitted to participate in Arabic poster designing competition through video conferencing. Zia Fathima is undergoing treatment for vasculitis, a rare and painful medical condition in which her body’s immune system attacks its own blood vessels. Doctors had advised her not to travel, as it could pose a life-threatening risk. Despite intense physical pain, she expressed her strong wish to compete at the state-level festival.

Taking note of her determination and the request from school authorities, the department issued a special order allowing her to take part online. She will compete in the event scheduled at 11am on Saturday at venue 17, CMS HSS, with officials monitoring and evaluating the competition online.

The decision reflects a humane approach to ensure that health challenges don’t stand in the way of a student’s artistic aspirations, said officials.
