Bengaluru: A private college professor has filed a complaint against her former student, who allegedly entered her house in Banasawadi on the pretext of using the restroom and stole gold ornaments worth over Rs 5 lakh.

The teacher, Dr Sheela Anthony, caught the accused, identified as Elizabeth, red-handed and recovered her mangalya chain. However, she later found a gold necklace with a ruby pendant missing.

In her complaint, the professor said the woman visited her house on March 11 and introduced herself as a former student. She requested permission to use the restroom, which the complainant allowed. Soon after, she noticed that her cupboard had been opened and a stool was placed nearby. On checking, she found Elizabeth attempting to steal gold ornaments. However, fearing for her safety, she allowed Elizabeth to leave without raising an alarm.

In the following days, Elizabeth reportedly returned to the area multiple times, making inquiries about the professor, raising suspicion. When the complainant later checked her valuables, she found that a gold necklace with a ruby pendant, weighing around 45 grams and worth over Rs 5 lakh, was missing.

A senior officer said a case has been registered under BNS Section 305 (theft in a dwelling house, or place of worship, etc.) at Banasawadi police station.
