Calicut University VC selection enters final stage, ETEducation
Kozhikode: The process to appoint a new vice-chancellor (VC) at Calicut University has entered its final stage and the selection committee will hold interactions with candidates who have applied for the post on Jan 18 and 19 at Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram.
The selection committee comprises Prof GU Kulkarni (Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru), Prof Ravindra D Kulkarni (VC of University of Mumbai, Maharashtra) and R Ramakumar (Member, Kerala State Planning Board), who will lead the interactions with candidates.
Till date, the governor’s office has received over 40 applications for the VC post. After meeting all candidates, the selection committee will submit a panel of five names to the governor. The new VC is expected to be appointed by the last week of this month.
The appointment process drew strong criticism for delays caused by excluding the university senate’s representative from the selection committee. The situation worsened when two members nominated by CPM to the committee resigned. Following the intervention of the high court, the senate held a meeting on Dec 18 and elected R Ramakumar as its representative on the selection committee. This allowed the appointment process to resume and move forward without further obstacles.
