Visakhapatnam: Andhra University has launched a dedicated alumni management portal in collaboration with AlmaShines to strengthen its global alumni network. According to AU officials, the portal will enable alumni engagement through networking, mentorship, events, and career opportunities.

“Our alumni are the pride and strength of Andhra University. This platform will help us build a strong, connected global community and meaningfully engage alumni in the university’s academic and developmental journey,” said vice-chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar. The university invites all alumni to register and actively participate in this initiative.

Meanwhile, the university hosted the Prof Rokkum Radhakrishna fourth memorial lecture, jointly organised by the Institute for Development Studies-Andhra Pradesh and AU as part of the centenary celebrations. Speaking at the event, chairman of the economic advisory council to the prime minister and chairman of the Institute for Development Studies-AP, Prof S. Mahendra Dev, spoke about the need for generating quality employment opportunities.

He was the chief guest at the event. Earlier, tributes were paid to Prof Radhakrishna by garlanding his portrait. Mahendra Dev highlighted the importance of adding value to agriculture, taking post-harvest measures, and processing. “Human capital, technology, skills, youth population, urbanisation, and increased participation of women in employment contribute significantly to national growth. GDP growth improves only when exports increase and that India prioritises high-quality exports. We need to substantially increase investment and export growth, and to give greater importance to inclusivity and sustainability,” said Prof Dev.

Prof Duvvuru Narasimha Reddy (retired) of the University of Hyderabad, observed that only by taking steps towards sustainable, environment-friendly agriculture can the future of the agricultural sector be bright. As part of his lecture, he discussed some structural, institutional, and sustainability challenges related to Indian agriculture. He stressed the importance of increasing diversity in agriculture and providing the nation with healthy food. At the same time, he underlined the need to ensure fair income for farmers and to address the sense of insecurity among marginal and small-scale cultivators, ensuring them a dignified livelihood.
