DoE notice to school for ‘denying entry’ to child for not paying hiked fee, ETEducation
New Delhi: The Directorate of Education (DoE) issued a show-cause notice to Salwan Public School in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar over the alleged expulsion or denial of entry of a student, in violation of provisions of the fee regulation act.
Parents of the nursery student at the school alleged that their daughter was denied entry on multiple days for not paying a hiked fee. This was despite the fact that the fee hike was not approved by the DoE, which also issued a warning to the school on the matter earlier.
“Whereas, the deputy director of education, district east, in an order dated Jan 28, with respect to Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, Phase-3, specifically directed, inter alia, that the names of such students should not be struck off, or denied education, whose parents did not pay arrears of hiked fees, which is not approved by the DoE,” the DoE notice read.
The school’s principal did not respond to queries on the matter. However, an official confirmed that the student was denied entry, stating that a fee reminder notice was also sent to the parents.
The matter was first taken up by the parents with the district deputy director of education. Subsequently, the Directorate of Education, in a communication sent to the school principal, instructed that no student’s name should be removed from the rolls for failure to pay a fee increase that did not receive departmental approval. The department also cautioned that any violation of these directions would invite strict action under the Delhi School Education Act and Rules, 1973.
Earlier, a group of parents also approached the CBSE, seeking urgent intervention over concerns that roll numbers, admit cards and other examination-related formalities of their children studying in Classes X and XII could be withheld due to non-payment of fees following what they described as an “arbitrary, exorbitant and unapproved 57% hike.” The school, however, denied the allegations.
