Alleging ‘torture’ by teachers, Class 10 girl drinks phenyl, ETEducation
Ajmer: A 16-year-old girl studying in Class 10 wrote a suicide note alleging “verbal torture” and harassment by her school teachers, including denying her the admission card for upcoming board exams, and drank phenyl at her home in Ajmer Tuesday in a bid to end her life. The girl is now under treatment at JLN Hospital and Alwar Gate station police are investigating allegations made in the suicide note.
According to police, the girl wrote in her suicide note, “I am sorry that I have to do this because I did not like going to school. Everyone used to torture me and no one would talk to me, and if someone did, they would be told that I am not a good girl…. I had only one friend in school and teachers called her parents and told them that they should not let the both of us talk. I did not like going to school since the beginning of Class 10. All teachers used to verbally torture me, and now my attendance is low, so these people are ruining my future. I cannot bear it anymore. I am sorry.”
The girl’s mother told police that for the past four days, the family had been making rounds of the school to get her the admission card for board exams. She said that at a parent-teacher meeting in Jan, the teacher said that her daughter’s attendance was 60%, but after a few days her attendance was cited as 50% and the admission card was denied to her. On Tuesday morning, the school sent a notice on WhatsApp barring her from board exams.
