
Tamil Nadu Minister Distributes Laptops to Enhance Digital Learning for 284 College Students, ETEducation
Chennai: Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) minister and Chennai metropolitan development authority (CMDA) chairman P K Sekarbabu on Tuesday distributed free laptops to 284 students of Sri Kannika Parameswari Women’s Arts and Science College, located in the Harbour Assembly constituency. The distribution was carried out under the state govt’s flagship ‘Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil’ (the world in your hands) scheme.
The laptops were distributed at a function held at the Bharathi Women’s Arts and Science College campus on Prakasam Salai.
The scheme was launched by CM M K Stalin on Jan 5, 2026, at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam. Under the initiative, the state govt announced the distribution of 10 lakh laptops at a total cost of 2,172 crore to students studying in arts and science, engineering, agriculture, and medical colleges, to help them tap opportunities in information technology and artificial intelligence.
Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen students’ digital access and equip them with skills needed to compete in the global job market.
