
Education department officials caught taking bribe in Madanapalle, ETEducation
Vijayawada: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted searches at the residential and office premises of two education dept officials on Monday in connection with a case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The accused, Nagasetty Raja Sekhar, assistant director (services), and Khanbhai Mahaboob Basha, alias Munna, senior assistant in the office of the district education officer (DEO), Madanapalle district, were caught red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹45,000 from the complainant, Annaggi Seshadri Naidu, correspondent of ABC smart upper primary school.
The bribe was allegedly sought for processing the school’s files and recommending the upgradation of the institution from upper primary to high school.ACB officials carried out searches on Monday and Tuesday at the residential and office premises of both accused. Searches were conducted at two residences of Nagisetty, located at Sapthagiri colony in Kurnool town and Rayachoti. During the searches, officials detected movable and immovable assets worth approximately ₹1.60 crore from the premises. The assets include a house site purchased at Pandipadu village, in Kalkur mandal of Kurnool district, in 2020 for ₹38 lakh, on which a G+1 building was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹82 lakh. Another house plot at Pulluru village in Manavapadu mandal, in Mahabubnagar district, was found in the name of his wife.ACB officials also seized two vehicles, along with promissory notes, liquid cash, gold and silver ornaments, and other household articles. Searches at the Rayachoti residence are still in progress, officials said.
