
A Milestone for Sustainable Agriculture, ETEducation
Ludhiana: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, has entered a significant new phase of global academic engagement following its formal inclusion in the BRICS Network University. Shortlisted under the thematic area of Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, the development places PAU among a select group of institutions from BRICS nations that will collectively shape multilateral research, education, and innovation frameworks to address urgent global agri-food challenges.The expansion of the network was approved by the BRICS International Governing Board in May 2025. While the Indian Agricultural Research Institute represents the national institute category, PAU stands as the only agricultural university from India selected for this domain. This recognition comes at a pivotal moment as India prepares to assume the rotating BRICS Chairmanship in 2026, with member universities recently encouraged by the Department of Higher Education to design proactive collaborative activities.
In response to this leadership role, PAU plans to host structured meetings and joint academic sessions with partner universities, potentially aligning these high-level deliberations with its signature Kisan Melas. These platforms will allow faculty and domain experts to shape joint research programs and mobility frameworks focused on climate-resilient farming and resource conservation. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal noted that the inclusion reflects global confidence in PAU’s ability to convert scientific research into field-level impact across diverse agro-ecological regions.
To facilitate these international exchanges, the university has designated Dr. Vishal Bector, Associate Director for Institutional Relations, as the official point of contact. He will coordinate academic proposals and communication within the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security cluster. As India steers the BRICS presidency in 2026, PAU is now positioned to lead the discourse on sustainable practice and food security across the world’s emerging economies.
