Nagpur: Headmaster of a govt school in Saoner taluka has been accused of using obscene language, indecent behaviour, and physically assaulting students. An FIR was registered against the headmaster at Saoner police station on Monday under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Based on the evidence gathered, provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act were also invoked.
Sources said complaints were filed with the CEO of Saoner Nagar Parishad, and the education department in the past. But no concrete action was initiated, which emboldened the headmaster, it was alleged.
Following complaints received by the Child Protection Unit, a detailed inquiry was conducted in the matter. Statements from the students were recorded independently, which confirmed the allegations.
A joint team from the education department and the Child Protection Cell under district child protection officer Mushtak Pathan visited the school for on-site inspection and verification, following which the offence was registered.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of district women and child development officer Sunil Mesre. The team also included Pathan, education department representative Prasanjit Gaikwad, Childline representatives Aniket Bhivgade and Meenakshi Dhadade among others.
The action was initiated based on a complaint filed by an assistant teacher.
Authorities said all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students.
A senior official from the rural police said the arrest would be made on the basis of the evidence gathered, past complaints, and other legal requirements.
The accused headmaster’s name was not disclosed officially pending further legal proceedings, said an official from the District Child Protection Unit.
