Lucknow: Chief secretary SP Goyal on Monday said that schools and anganwadi centres in rural areas should be provided tap connections.
Chairing the fifth meeting of the apex committee of state drinking water and sanitation mission, he directed officials to provide a list of schools and Anganwadi centres with no tap connections to the mission immediately so work there can be taken up on priority.
He said that work should also be completed in areas identified by Union govt, such as flood and drought affected areas, JE/AES affected districts, Sansad Adarsh Gram and areas with high Scheduled Caste/Tribe population.
To ensure proper water quality, the CS said that field testing kits should be provided to trained women in all villages so that they can ensure that the water being supplied is of potable quality and to additionally conduct bacteriological testing from NABL accredited state lab.
The meeting approved a proposal to extend the contract period with agencies for construction works under Jal Jeevan Mission till Dec 2027.
The CS was informed that all 97,070 revenue villages of the state have been covered with piped drinking water.
