School to pay Rs 30 lakh compensation, ETEducation
Mysuru: A day after a Class X student of Taralabalu Education Centre in Mysuru died in a road accident in Uttara Kannada district, the institute has agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 30 lakh to the parents of the student.
The deceased student, Pavan MH, of Taralabalu Education Centre was on a trip arranged by the school from Mysuru to Murudeshwar. The bus overturned near Honnavar taluk, resulting in Pavan’s death, police said.
The school administration has decided to give Rs 30 lakh as compensation to the deceased student’s parents, Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa told TOI.
After the tragedy, on Monday a discussion involving school board members, MLAs Srivatsa and K Harishgowda, the deceased student’s relatives, and DDPI was held. After the talks, the school board promised to give compensation, which the student’s relatives initially opposed. They demanded Rs 50 lakh instead, but later agreed.
Srivatsa also promised to provide a shelter to the parents under a govt scheme.
DDPI D Uday Kumar said school authorities did not follow regulations as they did not inform authorities about the trip. Several rules, including using KSRTC buses for school trips, must be followed, he said. Uday Kumar said a notice would be served to the institute seeking their reply and warned of action.
