Kolkata: Army Public School, Ballygunge has earned national recognition for its efforts in water conservation and eco-friendly practices. Led by principal Suchitra Bandyopadhyay and with the support of the Indian Army, the school received an award at the 6th National Water Awards. The award ceremony will be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Nov 18.

The school’s water conservation strategy is both practical and creative. Water from filters is reused for watering plants. A sprinkler-based irrigation system helps regulate water use in the garden, while rainwater harvesting tanks store excess water, allowing it to seep back into the soil. Additionally, self-stopping taps in washrooms prevent wastage, reinforcing the idea of mindful usage.

These measures are complemented by student awareness programs, workshops, and hands-on projects designed to make sustainability a habit. Students participate in campaigns that focus on conserving natural resources. “Our goal is to teach students that every drop counts,” said Bandyopadhyay.

“Our school has shown that even small actions can make a big difference. We’ve turned our campus into an example of how education can help protect our planet,” said a student.
