Rats seen in DU college canteen food, vendor’s tender dropped, ETEducation
New Delhi: A video allegedly showing rats scuttling over uncovered food items at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College‘s canteen has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among students over hygiene and food safety standards.
The clip depicts rodents scurrying across utensils and food, raising serious concerns about the quality and cleanliness of food served on campus.
“This is shocking and disgusting. Many of us eat at the canteen every day — we deserve basic hygiene,” said Aman, a student, calling for stricter monitoring of food contractors and better accountability.
The administration clarified that the video is not a recent one but emphasised that immediate action has been taken once the matter surfaced. “The video circulating is not recent. However, as soon as the college received a complaint, we acted promptly by cancelling the tender of the canteen vendor,” Principal Arun Kumar Attree said.
The administration added that the students’ unions of both the morning and evening colleges have been tasked with jointly recommending a new vendor. “Despite repeated reminders, the unions have not yet finalised a replacement,” Attree said.
