
Around 50 Bihar scientists among world’s top 2%: Stanford University list, ETEducation
Patna: In a record of sorts, around 50 scientists from different institutions of higher education in the state have featured in a list of world’s top 2% scientists, released by Stanford University in the US for 2025.
Every year, the Stanford University releases data for top 2% researchers across the world based on their research publications.
Among them, the maximum numbers of Bihar researchers are from Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P), including director T N Singh. Besides, 20 other faculty members from different streams of engineering, science and humanities have secured places in this esteemed database for their research publications and citations as well as their lifetime contribution to specific fields of research.
Among the IIT-P faculty members who have been included in the list are A K Thakur, Richa Chaudhary, Pratibhamoy Das, Surajit Kumar Paul, Sriparna Saha, Navin Kumar Nishchal, Manoranjan Kar, Udit Satija, Ranjan Kumar Behera and Karali Patra.
Besides, 16 faculty members of National Institute of Technology, Patna, including P Samui, Amit Kumar Singh, Gaurav Varshney, Ashish Kumar Bhandari, Abidhan Bardhan, Rajib Ghosh, Jyoti Prakash Singh, Kakali Chatterjee, Bhaskar Mondal and Jitendra Bahadur Maurya, have secured their places in this coveted list.
Apart from them, four faculty members from Central University of South Bihar — Subrata Kumar Bhattamisra, Vivek Dave and Arun Kumar (pharmacy), and Prafull Kumar Singh (geology) — and one from Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Santosh Kumar of food and technology, have made it to the list.
Most surprisingly, for the first time, a faculty member from chemistry department of Patna University, Rawesh Kumar, has featured in the prestigious list.
Congratulating them, Indian Science Congress Association’s general secretary and Munger University’s former vice-chancellor Ranjit Kumar Verma said the number of such scientists would grow with the creation of scientific temper in the state.
