
School Holiday Announcement: All schools in these five districts of this state will remain closed for two days, heavy rain is predicted

Heavy rains continue in most parts of the country. Meanwhile, in view of the red alert issued by IMD in Telangana, all schools in five districts have been declared closed for two days.
The Telangana government has ordered all schools in five districts to remain closed on August 13 and 14 in view of the red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Officials have also declared a half-day holiday in schools in Hyderabad on August 13, while IT companies have been advised to provide work from home facilities. In view of the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts on August 13 and 14, the School Education Department has declared two days’ holiday in all government and private schools in these districts.
The department has also declared half-day holiday on both days in all government and private schools in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Property Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has advised residents living in low-lying areas to move to safer places and remain alert.
Extremely heavy rainfall forecast from August 13 to August 15
HYDRAA has said that extremely heavy rainfall is forecast from August 13 to August 15. North Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri district, Cyberabad areas are likely to be the worst affected. 10-15 cm of rain is expected, and some places may receive up to 20 cm of rain.
Red and orange alert issued for these areas
The IMD has predicted very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in some districts on August 13 and 14. A red alert has been issued for Hanumakonda, Jango, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Medak, Sangareddy and Vikarabad districts. An orange alert has been issued for other districts including Hyderabad and adjoining Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts.
Leave of irrigation officials cancelled for next four days
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held a video conference with senior officials of all departments and district collectors from the Command Control Centre on the evening of August 12. He directed the officials to take all necessary safety measures to avoid loss of life and property during heavy rains and also asked them to ensure that there is no movement of vehicles on bridges, canals, falls and bridges with heavy flow in low-lying areas.
Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has asked all irrigation department officials to remain stationed at their respective work places and be fully alert to any accident/hazard caused due to excessive rainfall. Leave of all irrigation officials has been cancelled for the next four days.
