3 engineers suspended after part of school ceiling collapses, ETEducation
Trichy: Three engineers have been suspended after parts of the ceiling wall of a newly constructed govt primary school near Thuraiyur was found collapsed on Monday, triggering panic among parents and students. District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) officials declined to reveal their names or designations.
As examination of the building of the school at Singalanthapuram is underway, education department officials shifted students to another building on a temporary basis on Tuesday.
On Monday, school staff found a layer of a classroom’s ceiling on the floor when they opened the school. The building, which has two classrooms, was constructed at 30.5 lakh and was inaugurated just six months ago.
While education officials attributed the collapse to recent rain, parents expressed outrage over the quality of construction. They undertook a protest outside the school on Monday demanding a detailed inquiry. District officials later pacified the protesters by assuring safety of their children and ensuring an inquiry.
